A note about pipe sizes and stop valves: “1/2 IPS”
valves are for threaded 1/2” pipes. 1/2” threaded steel and brass pipes measure about 7/8” across the outside and closer to 3/4” in diameter when measured across the end of the tapered threads.
“1/2 Compression” valves fit 1/2” copper water pipe which measures 5/8” outside diameter. Confusing? Yes, but we didn’t make it
up! Pipe is sized by it’s minimum INSIDE diameter so engineers can calculate things like flow rate and friction loss. The actual measured size of a pipe may not measure
anything close to it’s “trade size”. (We like to think of it as job security.) We only carry stop valves for 1/2” O.D supply lines. We do not carry any 3/8” O.D. outlet stop valves.
