Complete 1912 L. Wolff “Monarch” Bathroom Suite
|
 |
 |
|
As seen in the below pages from a 1910 L.Wolff catalog, this suite came to us complete from the Nixon Mansion in Reno, Nevada. Unfortunately, the 16,000 square foot home was
badly damaged by fire and required a complete gutting. We picked up the remaining bathroom fixtures at a “fire sale” (literally) and hoped and prayed that they
would come clean. For the most part, they did! We then selected the pieces that were in the best possible condition to come up with a complete bathroom. All the
original fixtures were completely disassembled, replated and rebuilt. The only non-original parts in this whole suite are the hot and cold faucets on the pedestal sinks and
they will look original. Even the drains are original! if you are looking for a complete circa 1912 bathroom, this is it!

These monsters are made of earthenware, and will come with the original “Standing Waste” style tub drain and supply. Keep in mind, this type of tub
filler does not meet current codes, so be sure to see your local building department for a historic variance. This tub was intended to be “striped”,
the inside and rim are glazed, but the center section was left unglazed so a stripe matching the color scheme of the room could be applied. Weight is +/- 600 lbs,
so have that forklift handy.

Here it is pictured in a 1910 L. Wolff catalog. We have both a left hand drain and a right hand drain one available, so we can be flexible in regards to your
bathroom plans. Yes, the room will have to be built around this tub! Tub measures 65” long, is 31” deep and stands 21” tall. The Bathing
well is 59” by 24” and has a maximum depth of 19” Earthenware is prone to shrinkage (it’s basically a form of concrete) so the glaze on
these tubs does have some crackle. The one with the drain on the right is the better of the two, the left hand version does have a fairly long crack running
through the drain and filler holes, it does not go completely through the base material.

But wait, there’s more!

Yes, it’s true! Not one, but two
L. Wolff “Monarch” pedestal sinks. Plan on a his/hers bathroom. Fitted with the original mixing type “Standing Waste” drain, and we’ll be attaching a reproduction set of hot/cold valves that will be plumbed into the original spout. Period appropriate handles and trim would have been 5-ball type handles with metal escutcheons, and that’s what will go on them. All will be in the original finish of Polished Nickel.
Note the detail of the pedestal. We call these “picture frames”, and they’re tough

to find. Again, these are made of earthenware, and have the age crackle that has become the sought after look to these fixtures. We’ve selected the best
two out of the 6 survivors, and are presenting them here. Heck, one of these still has the original shipping tag on the back of the pedestal from the Wolff
factory... These sinks stand an unusual 32” tall (most sinks of this vintage are 30”) and are 33” wide by 23” deep.
